SPC is a School of Record for ILISA Educational Experiences in Costa Rica, meaning that Spanish language courses successfully completed at ILISA can be directly transferred for credits at private and public colleges and universities in the United States.

Are you ready to immerse yourself in the Spanish language and experience the nature of Costa Rica? Practice and grow your Spanish proficiency in this three-week intensive immersion program in San José. Live with a Costa Rican family (depending on COVID-19 restrictions) and take daily lessons with native speakers. You will also have the chance to participate in local cultural activities organized by ILISA and explore the San José area, its culture and history. As well, there are daily activities and weekend excursions to beautiful volcanoes, majestic waterfalls and beaches. A visit to a coffee plantation is also on the agenda.

Classes are offered at all levels and are taught by Costa Rican professors five days a week. The three-week ILISA program includes 20 language lessons addressing function and communication skills.

Also included are cultural activities such as cooking classes, dance classes, visits to museums and more. Cultural activities and tours reinforce a student’s proficiency in the language and foster an understanding of the culture.

Available courses: Students must enroll in at least one course from the list below. Please note that students cannot complete the two semesters of foreign language requirements during this three-week program. However, you can extend your stay for three more weeks and complete a second semester.

• SPN 2200 Intermediate Spanish I, 3 credits

• SPN 2240 Spanish Conversation and Comp I, 3 credits
• SPN 2241 Spanish Conversation and Comp II, 3 credits

Spanish immersion gives you a chance to receive daily classes completely in Spanish and always abiding by our rule of “no English in the classroom.”

This 3-week program includes:

• Tuition – 3 or 4 credits depending on the course
• Airport pick-up and drop-off 
• Excursions to Poás Volcano, the La Paz Waterfall Gardens, the Doka Coffee plantation and a San Jose city tour
• Tour to Irazu Volcano and Orosi Valley
• 21 days of Homestay (includes 2 daily meals and laundry)
• Transcript to your home institution
