For many years, we’ve received requests from students to offer programs specifically for children. In response, we have developed less-intensive programs tailored to children aged 5 to 15. Our experience shows that children thrive with 6 to 15 hours of lessons per week, depending on their age and interests. To ensure an engaging learning experience, we have selected qualified teachers with years of experience in teaching children and have built a specialized collection of teaching materials for young learners.
Spanish classes at ILISA: Classes for children are a combination of educational field trips and classroom instruction, utilizing visual and hands-on materials to keep young learners engaged. This approach has made our Spanish for children program both enjoyable and successful for all involved.
Sunview K-12 School: Children can join classes with Costa Rican students at the same grade level they attend at home, making this a wonderful opportunity to build confidence in Spanish, make local friends, and experience daily life in Costa Rica in a natural and meaningful way.
Age is an important factor when organizing classes. The learning needs of an 8-year-old and a 13-year-old differ significantly, while such a difference between adults is minimal. Therefore, we avoid placing children with more than a few years of age difference in the same class. The final decision on class composition will be made in consultation with ILISA’s teaching staff and the parents involved.
We also offer additional support services such as airport transportation and assistance organizing weekend excursions. Whether you would like help with transfers, hotel bookings, one-day tours, or activity suggestions, we are happy to help make your family’s stay in Costa Rica as smooth and enjoyable as possible.
While we offer programs for children aged 5-15, we do not accept children under 16 traveling alone. Teenagers aged 16-18 wishing to attend our programs independently must be mature enough to be self-sufficient. Although host families provide support, all students, including teenagers, are responsible for their own decision-making.
Our program is also ideal for homeschooling families who wish to integrate Spanish learning into their existing curriculum. Teachers can provide lessons directly at the host family’s accommodations, following the same structure used back home.
ILISA’s Spanish programs for children are designed to offer a well-rounded, fun, and educational experience for both kids and their families. If you have any questions or would like to discuss the best options for your child, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
