Reviews from Retirees
“My experience in Costa Rica was excellent. First of all I appreciated the people for their tremendous love for the country. Every citizen is well educated and this was evident in my limited exchange and interaction with the local people throughout the country. I enjoyed the beauty of the Natural Parks and I was impressed that the government wants to keep the parks free from exploitation by big business. ILISA gave me the confidence to speak Spanish with other Latinos in the U.S. Most of all I liked the idea of having a “small” class with one teacher; I also liked the idea of changing the teachers and students every few weeks. The teachers at ILISA were very patient and kind to all the students. In so many ways, the students and teachers became a family. In general my experience of Costa Rica and Illisa were very positive. I will recommend the school to other students at my college. Today I can understand about 90% of the Spanish spoken on the T.V. in the U.S. I want to thank ILISA for helping me to learn Spanish.”-Paul Grizzellereid, retired US, Saint Petersburg College

“I thoroughly enjoyed my stay! The professors were well prepared and patient. I enjoyed the cultural activities, the tours, the other students, and the cultural interaction. I will recommend it to friends.” –Kay Shurden, Retired Therapist/Professor, Macon, GA
“My trip to Costa Rica was wonderful, and I hope to return next year, or at least in the next two years. I have been to ILISA twice, and both times I met some wonderful people, and the instructors are excellent. They are wonderful teachers and lots of fun. Now I go to the Spanish church as often as possible, and listen to Spanish programs on the television. I am even teaching a beginner’s Spanish class one day/week! I am 70 years old and still learning. If I can do it, anybody can.” –Polly Harrell, Retired Secretary, Morristown TN
“Instructors: excellent. Building: excellent. People: very courteous and helpful.” –Margaret Kelly, Retired, US
