Contact us for more information

Why is it important to know Spanish as a speech-language pathologist?

As a speech-language pathologist, you help people who have problems with their speech. Spanish is one of the three most spoken languages in the world together with English and Chinese. Because of this, it is likely that you will get requests from clients that have English as a second language. Whatever your specialty might be, Spanish will help you in your career. It gives you an advantage against other colleagues who are monolingual and it will help you when dealing with clients. When learning a new language you also acquire information about the culture, and this will help with the relation you have with your Spanish speaking clients.

Professionals like you encounter more Latino clients every day. Are you prepared to provide your community’s Spanish speakers with the services they need?

ILISA Language Institute in Costa Rica is now offering you a more flexible opportunity to meet this growing challenge. Take part in our professionally orientated Spanish course, which is now available any week throughout the year, which will allow you to:

  • Learn Spanish and live within the culture of Latin America
  • Receive instruction carefully focused to the vocabulary needs of your specific job.
  • Take part in technical and cultural presentations relevant to your profession.
  • Exchange experiences with your local counterparts and observe live situations within your own field.

Beginners will concentrate on developing general language skills.
  • Visits to local schools, hospitals, rehabilitation facilities and clinics, provide a unique opportunity to get an inside view of a Latin American country’s rehabilitation infrastructure.
  • Volunteering with SLP professionals at Special Educations schools (students participating in volunteering might need to take only afternoon private instruction to work in the morning schedule)
  • Cultural activities such as Latin dance and cooking classes, theater and museum visits, non verbal communication and country specific lectures.
