Reviews from Speech Language Pathologists
My name is Tirsa Rodriguez and I participated in Ilisa’s Speech-language pathology training for a week at their Costa Rica campus. I had a wonderful time at Ilisa and learned a tremendous amount of clinical Spanish that I can apply in my career. Ilisa’s professors are very knowledgeable in Spanish and in the Costa Rican cultural. Classes were very organized and informative. The campus was beautiful and clean. In addition to classes, Ilisa graciously hosted my co-workers and me, offering a diverse array of cultural activities. Ilisa surpassed all my expectations! 🙂 – Tirsa Rodríguez
As an experienced Speech-Language Pathologist I attended classes at ILISA for three weeks. ILISA was the third Spanish immersion school I had attended, and it was the BEST by leaps and bounds! I had daily small group lessons, with three other students at same ability and professional level, that were engaging, fun and full of useful information and practice. I felt like we were a family from day one! In addition, I had private lessons that focused on my practice as a speech-language pathologist in the schools. We role played many situations/meetings etc. The teachers had a wealth of written information that I came home with and utilize effectively with my Spanish speaking parents. I plan on going back this summer 🙂 – Suzanne Germain
I had the wonderful privilege of working with Edy Calore in my Spanish course at Ilisa. She was a brilliant teacher, sharp, funny, helpful, organized, and very kind. Ms. Calore had well planned lessons which included basic, intermediate, and more advanced conversational Spanish, many interesting activities to help us communicate better with the other class members. She got to know all of us personally and found ways to integrate our interests, skills, jobs, and hobbies into her lessons. She even used movie clips and popular songs to emphasize the skills we were working on. She focused very intently on the specific language skills, such as preterite verb conjugations and use of the imperative mode, which increased our comprehension and use of crucial aspects of language acquisition. She gave us much insight, as well, into the culture and customs of Costa Rica. When I return to Ilisa someday, I would be very honored to be her student again! Edy Calore is one of my favorite teachers of all time! Ilisa is so fortunate to have someone so hard working and dedicated. – Gina Hurst
“My experience at Ilisa Instituto de Idiomas has contributed greatly to my skill-set as a speech-language pathologist. Ilisa provided me the appropriate vocabulary and language to discuss communication disorders, and I now have more confidence when interacting with my Spanish-speaking clients and their families. In addition, the staff at Ilisa are very helpful. Not only do they ensure that your coursework is thorough, they also provide opportunities for you to tour the city and become immersed in the local culture. I highly recommend this program to any speech-language pathologist, seeking to acquire/strengthen their Spanish-speaking skill set.” – Melissa Tanguma-Ream
