Images of the Panama Canal

Click to enlarge the pictures below and enjoy. We did when we took them!

The Canal is operated 24/7 This container carrier is now entering the Pacific Ocean. A normal transit takes about 8-10 hours. 47% of the traffic is Panamax. That leaves about one foot (30 cm) on each side of these big boys. Just after the San Miguel locks, entering the 'Corte Culebra' (snake's cut)

On the left, a container carrier leaving the Gatun locks. Above, a colleague on the lake, on its way to the locks on the Pacific side of the Canal.

The 'Corte Culebra' with the 'Gaillaird' cut (the hill) on the right side of the Canal. This cut took a lot of dynamite.
