Option 2: Request the credit transfer directly through your university. (Your university must approve our programs prior to your enrollment)
Many of our students have received college credit for their studies at ILISA Costa Rica.
Most of these students participate in the program on their own and apply for credit independently at their former institution in the U.S., Canada or Europe.
Students who are applying for credit must first have approval from their university prior to beginning studies in Costa Rica. Most institutions also require that students take a final exam and receive an evaluation of their work and progress during the course. At ILISA we are happy to provide all this information in a timely manner.
However, each university or college has a somewhat different system for granting credit, so if you are interested in this option, we can work with your Spanish or Study Abroad Department to set up a program that will meet their specific credit requirements.
Since your university must approve our programs prior to your enrollment, please consider this time to choose your starting date.

ILISA is certified by ACTFL
ILISA has ACTFL certified OPI (Oral Proficiency Interview) Testers!
ACTFL Certified Testers are specialized language professionals who have completed a rigorous training process and have met the established criteria for certification by ACTFL. ACTFL OPI Tester Certification is a highly valued professional credential that is recognized nationally and internationally.
ILISA helps the students to prepare for the ACTFL exam.
How do ILISA students profit from our ACTFL certification?
This standardized testing system provides a comparable outcome of a speaker’s functional ability in language. OPI ratings are commonly used for admission into programs, placement within a language sequence and determination of the fulfillment of exit or graduation requirements.
Furthermore, ACTFL OPI Testing is recommended for college credit by the American Council on Education (ACE) and can help you receive college credit for a study abroad program at ILISA Language Institute.
What is ACTFL?
The ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines were created by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages in order to provide a means of assessing the proficiency of a foreign language speaker.
The guidelines are broken up into different proficiency levels: novice, intermediate, advanced, and superior. Additionally, each of these (except superior) is further subdivided into low, mid and high. These proficiency levels are defined separately for ability to listen, speak, read and write. Thus, depending on the emphases of the programs attended, students may reach a different level in spoken language than in reading or writing.
